The Going Beyond Mural Our Going Beyond youth had the opportunity to work with a local artist (Pamela Rojas) to create this mural. We started with a discussion, asking the youth what positive relationships meant to them. Going Beyond youth had time to reflect on this, come up with their ideas, discuss as a group and then transfer their ideas to the canvas. Some of the themes the group came up with included: Respect; Giving 100%; and Actions speak louder than words. At the beginning of the activity, some of them were worried and skeptical, saying things like "But I can't draw!”. However, as they began to let go of what they thought they were capable of, they discovered creative artist abilities in themselves they never even knew existed! The Going Beyond program asks youth to challenge themselves to “go beyond” what they think is possible and shoot for the stars! This mural is a fantastic example of how we were able to facilitate this. Our youth walked away from this experience empowered with a “Oh yes I CAN!” attitude! Thank you to our artists: Ansu, Alban, Avery, Bradyn, Donald, Emmanuel, Morgan, Ryleigh and Thomas.
